We were eighteen in all on the Isle of Wight Walking Festival in May 2007, seventeen staying at the Hambledon Hotel in Shanklin where we were extremely well looked after by Bill and Jackie Grindley and their Polish assistant, Edita. They were all charming and so helpful, specially at drying clothes and boots. Roland Wood stayed at the Heatherleigh Hotel seventy yards down the road as "there was no room at the inn" but he joined us for the walks and the evening meals. Audrey fell in love with The Thatched Cottage Tea Rooms in Old Shanklin, particularly after they found her wallet in the ladies toilet and gladly opened the door after hours to return it to her! The Group enjoyed walks from the official Festival Programme and some of their own devising. Among the places visited were Bembridge, Yarmouth, Shorewell, Godshill, Freshwater and Carisbrooke Castle. There was a lot of banter and laughter and the week was much enjoyed by the Group.
